NRBP is committed to promoting equity in the workplace. Since 2018 we have worked toward establishing a strong Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative to engage our membership, provide opportunities for learning, and encourage activities and policy change which would result in increased workplace equity, inclusion, and diversity. We are excited to launch this affordable series of experiential DEI courses, produced by SHIFT HR Compliance Training, which will provide participants with the opportunity to explore important DEI concepts at their own pace.

Upon completion of the courses, participants will have a strong foundational awareness of DEI topics, increased empathy for diverse groups, and an understanding of critical topics that could negatively impact the workplace. This package of four courses is appropriate for all companies, no matter the industry, and for employees at all levels of an organization. Participants will have continued access to the courses until June 6, 2022, providing an excellent opportunity for reflection and repeat participation.

Courses include interactive activities and real-world scenarios which call upon the participant to put themselves in the shoes of the main character described in each situation. NRBP staff completed each of the below courses and found the experience to be informative, engaging, and helpful to our professional and personal growth.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion E-Learning On-Deamand consists of the following packge of four courses:

Unconscious Bias in the Workplace (30 minutes)

This online training course introduces managers to the important concept of Unconscious Bias and explores the impact of such biases on their work environment. Awareness-building activities and real-life scenarios help the learner understand that we all have biases and that becoming more aware of them can make us better employees and managers. This course focuses on moving beyond awareness building and provides practical solutions for preventing bias from impacting critical workplace decisions related to hiring and managing employees. Real-life interactive scenarios provide practical experience in making conscious decisions to move beyond bias.

Building Employee Inclusion and Promoting an Upstander Culture (20 minutes)

As workplaces become more diverse and we regularly interact with colleagues from an increasing variety of backgrounds, it’s important to be mindful of the important role every person plays in creating an inclusive environment where all employees feel included, supported and valued; improve the quality of workplace interactions and decisions; encourage employees to become Upstanders; identity and practice tools to increase team productivity, innovation, and morale.

Creating A Culture of Civility and Respect in the Workplace (15 minutes)

Employees appreciate working in an environment that is comfortable, inclusive, and free of inappropriate conduct and disrespectful behavior. The goal of this online training course is to present the expectations of organizational leadership to uphold a positive and productive workplace and to remind employees to carefully consider their everyday words and actions. Real-world situations and practical examples of positive behavior are given as well as tips and tactics to show employees how to take appropriate steps to point out and correct incivility when they see it.

Transgender Inclusion in the Workplace (15 minutes)

The EEOC and many states’ employment laws interpret Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to include discrimination protections for transgender individuals. As a result, companies and their employees cannot discriminate based on gender identity. This course provides learners with an understanding of the issues related to gender identity and transgender rights in the workplace. Learners are provided with an opportunity to learn and practice how they can create an inclusive workplace environment that is respectful of everyone, including their transgender colleagues and customers.

COVID-19 brought many issues into sharp focus, and the year 2020 heralded some of the most fundamental changes in the way of work, health and community experienced in recent history. In just a few weeks, companies that had been entirely based at the office had moved to remote work, and health care provided by telemedicine with hospitals and medical facilities devoted entirely to treating COVID and life/death situations. Some of these issues are directly related to the pandemic while others are tied to various economic forces and heightened focus on systemic racism and diversity.

What transformations are here to stay, and what additional changes/adaptations might we see in the next year?

NRBP presents its annual Regional Economic Outlook in two installments, October 13 and October 14, 10- 11:30 am. Industry experts will offer perspectives on the changes in their industries and what they foresee for the future.

Join us to learn about the NJ Business Action Center - your one-stop for the information you need to do business in New Jersey - and the new law, effective May 4, 2022, which ends the provision or sale of single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products at all stores, grocery stores and food service businesses statewide.

The use of single-use paper bags will be prohibited at grocery stores that are 2500 sq. ft. in size or larger. Plastic straws may only be provided at the customer’s request after Nov. 4, 2021. The presentations will share details of the law and resources to help communities and businesses comply and make the transition to the new requirements.

NRBP is excited to collaborate with the Morris, Sussex, Warren Workforce Development Board's Disability Committee to host this series of four webinars which will provide information and best practices on being more inclusive of disabled/neurodiverse employees and how to target your organization's recruitment to include these candidates. The series will also look ahead at the rising issue of COVID long-hauler disability.

This presentation will focus on understanding the different types of hidden disabilities employers may encounter and how employers can make reasonable accommodations for their employees impacted by such conditions. Included in the presentation will be a discussion of sensory impairments, physical disabilities, medical conditions, learning and cognitive disabilities, and mental health disabilities. Various local resources will also be discussed. Time will be included for discussions and questions.

COVID Long-Haulers: What Do We Know & What Should We Expect? – Oct. 28

This program will discuss COVID long-haul syndrome and what employers should know about disabling conditions and job performance.
