With an entrepreneurial background and degrees from Yale and Harvard, Bo Kemp brings a unique perspective to his role as business administrator of New Jersey’s largest city. During his first year as Mayor Booker’s “chief operating officer”, Kemp has begun to address the City’s immediate challenges including violent crime, budget deficits and the integrity of government processes. At the same time, the City has been hard at work with the New Jersey Devils in the construction and opening of the Prudential Center, the first new sports and entertainment venue in the metropolitan area in 25 years.

In NRBP’s April newsletter, Connections, Kemp noted NRBP’s rich tradition and strong membership base and pledged to work with the business community to strengthen existing public-private partnerships and leverage successful models from other municipalities. Some of Kemp’s early actions have included working with the City Council to pass the budget in a timely fashion, improving the rate of tax collections and adopting private sector human resources practices for use in a government framework.
