Senator Robert Menendez was sworn in to the United States Senate in January 2006 when N.J. Governor Jon Corzine appointed him to fulfill the remainder of his Senate term. Senator Menendez then won election to a new six year term in November 2006. Previously, he represented NJ’s 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1992-2006. Senator Menendez’ committee assignments include Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs; Budget; Energy & Natural Resources; and Foreign Relations.

NRBP’s working relationship with the Senator has most often centered on transportation issues such as his strong support for passenger rail and his role as champion of the Liberty Corridor, a multifaceted economic development strategy that strengthens NJ’s road and rail infrastructure while capitalizing on our world class ports and expertise in research and development. Most recently, Senator Menendez has staked out highly visible positions on the Iraq War and stem cell research while working to secure federal funds for the new Trans-Hudson tunnel and New Jersey flood victims. This Eye Opener provides an opportunity to hear a leader’s perspective on a wide range of today’s most critical regional and national issues.
