Event Description:
A distinction with a difference, according to the IRS and DOL. Many employers, large and small, hire workers as “independent contractors.” But when the IRS or the DOL comes calling and tells you that workers have been misclassified as independent contractors, the lessons learned can be costly, in time, dollars and reputation.
Attendees will learn the tests for determining if a worker is properly classified as an independent contractor or employee and, as importantly, the tests for determining if an employee is exempt or non-exempt (for overtime pay) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Proper worker classification on both fronts is the key to surviving government audits focused on these issues. This seminar is particularly important for small businesses and non-profit organizations facing tight budgets and looking for ways to contain costs. CPE credits will be available; 1.0 NJ CLE pending. For CPE credit information, see below.
Speakers include Daniel Gibson, EisnerAmper LLP and Aron Schwartz, Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP.
