Public Safety in Newark: A Dialogue with Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio

Mayor Cory Booker identified the improvement of public safety in Newark as his number one priority and Newark Police Director Sam DeMaio is at the forefront of those efforts. At this Newark Insiders Forum, he will share with NRBP members how the City is working to reduce crime in the face of severe budgetary restrictions and discuss the new tactics, programs and collaborations that are helping to drive those rates down. Director DeMaio is also looking forward to Q&A from NRBP members and providing information that will help to strengthen public safety.

Samuel A. DeMaio was named Newark’s acting police director in May 2011 and confirmed as police director in September 2011. He started his NPD career at the age of 19 and worked his way through the ranks of the Department at a rapid pace, becoming the youngest person to achieve each of the ranks to which he was promoted.
