Event Description:
Cami Anderson is an established leader in the national education reform movement with more than twenty years of professional experience as a teacher, school leader, entrepreneurial non-profit executive and effective administrator. She was appointed state district superintendent for Newark Public Schools by Governor Chris Christie in May, 2011. The superintendent is responsible for raising student achievement for more than 39,000 students attending Newark Public Schools.

As chief executive of the largest school district in the state, Ms. Anderson oversees a budget of nearly one billion dollars. She is accelerating innovation by working with public private partnerships at unprecedented levels, setting a new national model for the transformation of urban education in America.

Prior to joining NPS she was superintendent of alternative high schools and programs for the NY City Department of Education (District 79) consisting of approximately 30,000 young people and 60,000 adults. A recipient of the National Teacher of the Year award, Ms. Anderson also served as executive director of Teach for America New York and chief program officer for New Leaders for New Schools. Ms. Anderson’s diverse background includes her role as a Montessori educator and youth theatre director.
