The development of housing in downtown areas has become an established trend in cities nationwide. Last year, Cogswell Realty Group began rentals at Eleven80, its office building conversion to market-rate rental apartments in downtown Newark. Rock Properties’ project on north Broad Street and other small scale developments are in the planning stages or underway. Earlier this year, NJPAC unveiled its next phase to include housing as part of a larger mixed-use cultural arts community. At this installment of the Newark Insiders Forum, NRBP will look at the projects in various stages of development and discuss the potential for progress in bringing residents to Newark’s downtown. Speakers confirmed to date include Toni Griffin, director of housing and community development for the City of Newark who will moderate the discussion, as well as Andy Cohen, president, Rock Properties; Carl Dranoff, president, Dranoff Properties; Larry Goldman, NJPAC president and CEO; Laurie Volk, partner with the market research firm Zimmerman Volk Associates; Samer Hanini, Principal, Hanini Group, LLC; and Arthur Stern, chief executive officer, Cogswell Realty Group.
